Helen Hamrick Cook, 88, of Oceana, passed away peacefully Monday, March 11, 2024, at CAMC Memorial Hospital in Charleston, following a short illness.
Born April 14, 1935, in Blue Sulphur Springs, WV, she was the daughter of the late Okey and Edith Adkins Hamrick.
Helen graduated from Oceana High School in 1953. Following graduation, she began working for Attorney Marshal West and worked in his office for twenty-one years. In September 1974, she began working in the office of Malcolm P. Arnold, the Assessor of Wyoming County, and continued to work until her retirement in June 1997. Helen loved working with the public, answering questions, and assisting everyone with whatever their needs.
Helen loved the Lord and was of the Baptist faith. She enjoyed listening to her favorite pastor, Dr. Charles Stanley.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, David Cook. Helen was an only child and had no children.
She is survived by special cousins, Betty Tilley, Erma Hamrick, Judy Hatcher and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was also blessed with her good friends, Teddy Toler, Thelma Riley, Calvin and Bonnie Cline and her caregivers, Danny and Therese Daniels.
