Emerson Ralph Stewart, 82, passed away Tuesday, April 16, 2024, at Raleigh General Hospital in Beckley.
He was born November 26, 1941, in Matheny, WV, to the late Ralph Emerson Stewart and Beulah Elkins Stewart.
Emerson, a lifelong Wyoming County resident, retired as the Assistant Director of Wyoming County 911. He worked in the community for many years as an EMT / Paramedic and instructed EMT / Paramedic classes.
He was a longtime member of Matheny United Methodist Church. He was also a member of Sons of the American Revolution, where he served as President until becoming ill. Known as an avid car enthusiast, he was often seen on nice days, driving one of his prized possessions, stopping to chat with friends along the way.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Mona Taylor Stewart, his sister, Catherine Short, and brother-in-law, Joe Short.
He is survived by his son, Ralph Stewart and wife Toni; two grandchildren, Marina Mack and husband John and Cody Stewart and wife Sidney; nieces and nephews, Greg Short, Myra Short, Chuck Short and wife Judy and Jeanne Short and partner Sherry White; a host of extended family members; and countless friends.
